How to make Satay Peanut Sauce Indonesian Style

Since we are living away from home and can’t get our hands on foods we like to eat, we started to make more and more ourselves. One of the things we really miss is Indonesian food and satay peanut sauce (satesaus). Our favorite store bought satay peanut sauce used to be from Wijko.

Last year I perfected my satay peanut sauce to a way we like it and here I share it with you. Enjoy!

Enjoying an evening where everybody cooks there own food from the griddle / electric teppanyaki table top grill. We have different types of meat, veggies, bread, satay peanut sauce and other condoments

Ingredients:
1 Onion
4 cloves of garlic
2 teaspoons of sambal
1 tablespoon of coconut oil
4 tablespoons of peanut butter
2 tablespoons of ketjap
(2 tablespoons of lemon juice)
2 cups / 4 dl of water!!!
1/4 cup / 50 gr of butter

Preparation:
Add the onion, garlic and sambal in a blender or use a mortar and pestle to make a smooth mixture.

Cooking Instructions:

First of all: make sure that the sauce doesn’t reach a boiling point, otherwise the oil of the satay peanut sauce will be floating on top of the sauce. If this does happen, take your sauce from the heating source, add water and stir your sauce.

1. Heat up a tablespoon of (coconut) oil, en cook the onion/garlic/sambal mixture for about 1 minute while stirring.
2. Add the peanut butter, ketjap and if you want the lemon juice.
3. Melt de butter in the sauce.
4. Add water. Do this a little bit at the time. You don’t want to end up with a watery satay peanut sauce.
