Let the journey be shaped by the curiousity of the child…

Photo Coasters, our new present!

It is present making time, again! What would you make for a grown-up, a parent, a grandpa. What would make him happy? I can’t imagine that one of the earlier gifts (velcro popsickles, rice pit, play dough or a busy bag) we made would suit for a grandpa. Maybe to see his grandchildren everyday. We decided of giving him a photo present. And then the idea arose of making him photo coasters.

Preparations

So there we went. Collecting suitable pictures, coasters, mod podge, bowl, scissors and a brush.

I printed all the photographs on thick photo paper and I cut out all the pictures separately.

On the back of the photograph I layed the coaster to measure the circle I needed to cut and I started with cutting out one photo. Just to see if it would fit. I realised I needed to cut on the inside of the circle I draw on te back of the photograph. I added mod podge to a small bowl. I like it better that way. It gives me more control of how much I use.

The making process

These were all the preparations. Now the real work starts. After I’d cut out a circle on the first photograph in a way I liked, I cut out the other eleven photographs.

1. Cover one side of the coaster with mod podge.

2. Add the photograph

3. Cover the photograph on the coaster again with mod podge. This will dry up as a kind-of plastic layer. And protect the photograph from wet glasses.

4. Let everything dry. When they are dryed up, you can start using you photo coasters or wrap them as a gift.

Small changes are visible on our season table. Since there is still some snow here and it is officially still winter we added a flower from @sterrendaalders and the bears are peeking outside. Happy our little fellow is back. He had fun on his sleepover with his surrogate grandma. They did some exploring, helping, socializing. Yesterday he called us, actually he facetimed us, because he wanted to see his mom. Isn't it sweet when your almost 4 year old tells you he misses you and that he is having fun at the same time. #mmmmidiman #sleepovers Yes! Talk to yourself like you would talk to a dear friend. You are worth it.

It is the year of the fire monkey. Bye bye wood sheep, hello fire monkey! Soon, we will be adding a fire monkey to our tribe. Can't wait. #chinesenewyear #yearofthemonkey #yearofthefiremonkey He is so adorable. Miniman can't go to sleep without me holding his hand. #mmmminiman2 #gentleparenting #positiveparenting #attachementparenting #beingpresent #thismomentcounts #creatingmemories So true and I often forget. I remember the differences between growing up myself and what my parents and grandparents told me about their youth. How things had changed over the years. And the same will be true for our kids. I remember growing up and only having 3 tv channels available and now the sky is the limit with internet access. I do like to believe that the playing outside and reading aloud part has stayed equally important. #ayearfullofquotes2016 #timeschange #whoremembersthevcr?
